Alzheimer : Un tournant d\u00e9cisif pour la recherche et le diagnostic <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Entretien avec le Pr. Wim Annaert, pr\u00e9sident du comit\u00e9 scientifique de la Fondation Stop Alzheimer<\/a>, d\u00e9di\u00e9e au financement de la recherche scientifique en Belgique.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

La maladie d\u2019Alzheimer n\u2019a jamais \u00e9t\u00e9 aussi bien comprise qu\u2019aujourd\u2019hui. Alors qu\u2019il y a 15 ans, il \u00e9tait encore impossible de poser un diagnostic d\u00e9finitif avant le d\u00e9c\u00e8s du patient, la recherche a progress\u00e9 \u00e0 un rythme spectaculaire, ouvrant la voie \u00e0 des avanc\u00e9es majeures en mati\u00e8re de d\u00e9tection, de prise en charge, de traitement et de soins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Du diagnostic post-mortem au test sanguin pr\u00e9dictif<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

\u00ab Jusqu\u2019\u00e0 r\u00e9cemment, le seul moyen de confirmer avec certitude la pr\u00e9sence de la maladie \u00e9tait l\u2019analyse postmortem du cerveau. Cela limitait fortement les possibilit\u00e9s non seulement de traitement, mais aussi de pr\u00e9vention. Aujourd\u2019hui, gr\u00e2ce aux progr\u00e8s de la recherche, nous avons franchi un cap d\u00e9cisif<\/em> \u00bb, explique le Pr. Annaert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les chercheurs financ\u00e9s par la Fondation Stop Alzheimer ont contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 ces avanc\u00e9es majeures en mettant au point des biomarqueurs d\u00e9tectables dans le sang<\/a>. D\u00e9sormais, dans les cliniques universitaires et les centres de la m\u00e9moire, une simple prise de sang permet d\u2019identifier les premiers signes biologiques de la maladie, bien avant l\u2019apparition des sympt\u00f4mes visibles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00ab Ces nouveaux tests doivent \u00e0 terme trouver leur place dans les consultations de m\u00e9decine g\u00e9n\u00e9rale. Ils permettraient aux m\u00e9decins traitants de poser un diagnostic plus pr\u00e9cis et d\u2019orienter plus rapidement les patients vers des centres sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9s. \u00c0 long terme, ils pourraient m\u00eame \u00eatre int\u00e9gr\u00e9s aux bilans de sant\u00e9 d\u00e8s l\u2019\u00e2ge de 55 ans. Pourquoi si t\u00f4t ? Parce que la maladie d\u2019Alzheimer n\u2019est pas uniquement une maladie du grand \u00e2ge. <\/strong>Nous savons aujourd\u2019hui qu\u2019elle s\u2019installe dans le cerveau des d\u00e9cennies avant l\u2019apparition des premiers troubles de la m\u00e9moire. Une d\u00e9tection pr\u00e9coce nous donne l\u2019opportunit\u00e9 d\u2019intervenir \u00e0 temps.<\/em> \u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De nouveaux traitements disponibles\u2026 mais \u00e0 condition d\u2019agir vite<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Ces derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es, la recherche clinique a franchi un cap historique avec l\u2019arriv\u00e9e sur le march\u00e9 de nouveaux traitements<\/a>. Plusieurs m\u00e9dicaments sont d\u00e9sormais disponibles, dont certains ont d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9t\u00e9 approuv\u00e9s en Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00ab Ces traitements sont porteurs d\u2019espoir, mais leur efficacit\u00e9 d\u00e9pend d\u2019un facteur cl\u00e9 : ils doivent \u00eatre administr\u00e9s le plus t\u00f4t possible. Pris d\u00e8s les premiers signes de la maladie, ils permettent de ralentir son \u00e9volution et de gagner jusqu\u2019\u00e0 six mois d\u2019autonomie. Cela peut sembler peu, mais dans le quotidien des patients et de leurs familles, ces mois suppl\u00e9mentaires sont d\u2019une valeur inestimable. C\u2019est pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment pourquoi le diagnostic pr\u00e9coce est une r\u00e9volution. Plus nous d\u00e9tectons la maladie t\u00f4t, plus nous donnons aux patients une chance d\u2019agir. \u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Une recherche toujours en mouvement : vers des traitements encore plus efficaces<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Si ces avanc\u00e9es marquent un tournant, la recherche ne s\u2019arr\u00eate pas l\u00e0. Les \u00e9quipes scientifiques continuent d\u2019explorer de nouvelles pistes th\u00e9rapeutiques pour am\u00e9liorer la prise en charge et, un jour, stopper la maladie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00ab Nous comprenons aujourd\u2019hui les m\u00e9canismes mol\u00e9culaires de la maladie bien mieux qu\u2019il y a 20 ans. Cette connaissance ouvre la voie \u00e0 de nouvelles strat\u00e9gies th\u00e9rapeutiques : immunoth\u00e9rapies plus cibl\u00e9es, traitements combin\u00e9s, approches personnalis\u00e9es\u2026 La recherche \u00e9volue rapidement, et chaque jour nous rapproche un peu plus d\u2019une solution durable. \u00bb<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Un espoir tangible, mais un soutien indispensable<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Le Pr. Annaert conclut : \u00ab Nous sommes \u00e0 un tournant d\u00e9cisif.<\/strong> Pour la premi\u00e8re fois, nous pouvons pr\u00e9dire la maladie, la ralentir, et nous travaillons \u00e0 des traitements de plus en plus efficaces. Mais cela ne pourra se concr\u00e9tiser que si nous continuons \u00e0 investir massivement dans la recherche. C\u2019est le seul moyen de transformer ces espoirs en r\u00e9alit\u00e9. <\/em>\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n
